New York City Time-Lapse History by Eslam Ghazy

Directed, researched, and animated by Eslam Ghazy: Image & Video Storytelling Expert

Created with advice from historians Eymund Diegel and Myles Zhang

Follow the city’s time-lapse evolution from Dutch trading post to modern metropolis from a single, fixed camera angle. The project is based on extensive use of primary sources, century-old maps, photographs, and drawings from the collections the New York Public Library, Library of Congress, and Welikia map of pre-development NYC.

Modeled on the methodology behind the Here Grows New York project, Eslam’s project features a production archive available for download. Archive includes the full structure, all documents, frame logic, and workflow notes behind his animation.
